responsibility
i should have updated more in these early stages.
the truth is that my other computer broke on me so i had to take it to the computer repair shop yesterday. it was kind of a bizarre experience, here’s what the conversation was like between me and Mark, the guy working there. He was really nerdy and kinda came down on me bout my lack of computer knowledge:
ME: Hi, this is my computer. It’s broken.
GUY: Ok. Tell me bout your machine.
ME: Well i built it a month ago, its got an AMD X2 4800, 2 GBs of RAM, 250 GB HD, Rosewill 500 Volt PSU, and Geforce 8500. I installed a blueforce sound card and Sony DVD/rw, also the case is a CoolerMaster Centurion. It’s got 6 USB holes.
I got nervous and was trying to think of more and more cool things about my computer that would show i knew what i was talking about. I think after he heard me call them “USB holes”, the illusion was broken.
GUY: I mean what’s wrong with it.
ME: Oh, well it makes some beeping noises and the monitor won’t turn on.
GUY: Did you try turning on the monitor?
ME: Yeah i mean the video card won’t read or something.
GUY: (long sigh) Well I’ll have my tech look at it.
(At this point i wanted to leave since he was being a dick, but i really needed my computer fixed and i knew they did a good job).
(tension is palpable)
GUY: What’s your name?
ME: Jack
Guy: Zack?
ME: JACK
GUY: J…A…
ME: C K.
GUY: OK, “Jack”, fill this out and we’ll give you a call.
So all in all he was a big nerd prick to me, but i was willing to let it slide since i needed my dude fixed, and he probably spent a lot of his youth writing unanswered letters to Blizzard giving them ideas for Starcraft 2. Also he’s working at a place called Chips n Memory which sounds like a poorly marketed “food-fun party fusion game”.
